Design the smallest, lightest and fastest robot able to roll onto a paper and draw the largest circle possible.
For the MECHENG 2C03 Engineering Design course, I was tasked with designing a robot that rolls onto a page and draws a large circle. Its performance would be judged by the size, circularity, and speed of the circle, as well as the robot’s own size, weight, build quality, and creativity. The design featured two motor system, with one driving the wheels and pen drop mechanism, and the other controlling steering. It was manufactured using a combination of laser cut acrylic, 3D printed parts, and assorted fasteners. In order to control the motors, Arduino code was written to run the circle cycle at a button click, and to retract the pen at another button click.
